The Bahía Hondita area is home to the few remaining red mangroves in the world. Its magic is home to alligators, flamingos, migratory birds, residents, and hundreds of other animals that inhabit these coastal areas.

In order to preserve its magic, the conservation of its coasts, and the hundreds of species it harbors, the Hilo Sagrado Foundation, together with GIZ, launched a series of training sessions in this remote paradise to give a new lease on life for handicrafts, turning them into a sustainable avenue for community projects.
Through this initiative, Kalapuipa's artisanal technical capabilities were enhanced, reviving the pulling technique and consolidating the conservation of biodiversity and Wayúu culture.

After a year of intense work with the community through training and desert adventures, Junna "Red Mangrove" was born, the community's venture that is being presented at the Vassar Fair, showcasing the community's cultural richness.
Their handicrafts under this name maintain unique ancestral weaving techniques preserved by very few Wayúu communities. These handcrafted pieces convey and represent the purity of their territory.
The fabrics are inspired by the flora and fauna of this desert paradise, and each piece reflects the journey taken by the FHS and Kalapuipa, communicating the history of this desert gem through the fabric.

This project seeks to continue protecting sea turtles, lobsters, and hundreds of species that inhabit the mangroves, as well as the exotic red mangrove, protected by this community.
The mangrove route is planned for 2023 , a unique experience for adventurers and protectors of this paradise, where they can enjoy the red sunsets, the sand, and the wind.
The Hilo Sagrado Foundation, together with GIZ and Corpoguajira, invites all interested parties to join this cause and support the Kalapuipa community in its mission to conserve mangroves through their ancestral weavings.
